I was recently invited by Etihad Airways to take a tour around their new A380 when I arrived at London Heathrow Terminal 4. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the airline, lounge facilities and cabins on board.
My journey to London Heathrow began with the fast 15-minute Heathrow Express from London Paddington. I would expect most business or first class travelers to take advantage of the Etihad Airport transfer service by private limousine, which is available to/from most airports. If you're flying first class, you'll experience the full "meet and greet" service with personalized check-in and transfer as soon as you step out of your limousine.
Business or First Class passengers can access the luxury lounge located directly opposite the boarding gates of Terminal 4. After passing the fast track security lanes, you can explore the shops (or get a Heathrow personal shopper to do it for you!) and head to the lounge to unwind before your flight.
Here we were greeted beautifully and the service excellent. The Etihad Lounge is well laid out, featuring a restaurant and coffee shop area with ample hot and cold buffet options, computers, printer, laptop and charging stations as well as a fully stocked bar with friendly bar staff. You can watch TV if you want to relax, and there is an excellent (soundproof) children's area with soft toys for the little ones, as well as a fully equipped play area for anyone to use their Playstation and X-box.
For a real treat, make use of the Six Senses Spa treatment rooms located within the lounge. 15-25 minute treatments are offered for a nominal fee of £15 for a 15 minute treatment - First Class passengers are treated to a complimentary 15 minute treatment. I would suggest booking your session as soon as you get to the lounge as this service is very popular. Obviously I had to test the service! I can confirm that this is a nice and relaxing start to your trip.
Those fortunate enough to fly in Etihad Airways' Beyond First Class cabin, "The Residence," will have access to their own private lounge, completely secluded from other passengers. This lounge is actually a full studio apartment and comes with full butler service. It has its own lounge, dining table and chairs, and a full bathroom that allows you to freshen up.
I was really interested to learn that Etihad Airways can get the whole plane on board in about 20 minutes, given the clever design of the airlift and boarding sequence. Business and First Class passengers can board at their leisure and within minutes you will be served a welcome drink.
The Business Studios are located in the middle and aft of the aircraft on the upper deck. There are a total of 70 flat-seaters and the cabin is divided into smaller sections, making it feel smaller, more personal, and less busy.
